Good App - well worth the price

:
Good, solid app.

First let me mention my single biggest issue with this application - some may think it is a nit but I find accuracy an absolute must. The content appears to be accurate (as it is supplied directly through the Church), they supply the tool with which you can read, study, examine, search, highlight, etc... with one exception. I have to wonder why they took it upon themselves to arbitrarily remove the pilcrows (¶ ). They really need REALLY to restore the ¶ marks in the scriptures (as they are online, in the printed form and the competitions versions. etc...) Back in the day (long after the KJV translation) the verse numbering was added as a way to refer to specific passages and although useful some might argue they are 'artificial' (I for one think it was inspired). The paragraph structure came from the earliest writings/translations and were probably there in the original books and letters before they were ever combined into the Bible and our other scriptures. I would never argue to remove the verse numbering, even though it can be shown to be very recent historically - why on earth remove the paragraph structure that has exist from the beginning? I find for personal and family study it is very handy to be able to break things into logical chunks and the paragraph is the obvious place to do this. PLEASE restore the scriptures to match the quad, the King James Version, etc...

Another shortcoming is no real online help. The tutorials are WAY out of date and there are just enough quirky (non-standard) controls to make some stuff difficult to accomplish.

These guys have done some nice things to make operations fast (grid view for navigation, advanced search for us geeks is great). They finally got rid of the scrolling toolbar at the bottom - YAHOO! Now if they could just make there TrueTabs truly optional so you could turn them off. I suspect they started out as a nice feature but before they were finished implementing them they turned into a non-intuitive, complex mess - it unfortunately reminds me of what Microsoft has done with some of their features e.g., Ribbons in Word. They took a major portion of the screen and then tried to through the entire kitchen sink into it. Less is more! Simplify or at least let those of us that don't care for it turn it off (completely hide it) in preferences. I also find the highlighting system frustrating and would like to see it better integrated with bookmarks (and tags).

Some of the things I have said may sound like I don't care for this app much. That is FAR FROM TRUE. Is it perfect? No, however it is an EXCELLENT application that allows me to have access to the scriptures in a handy, compact and robust format (albeit changing quite regularly) most anywhere I am. For the work that is required to complete an application, test, self publish (to a vertical market which now includes a free product) and continue updating it for free $15 is more than a fair price (actually a bit low probably but they have to remain competitive). Those that say it should be cheaper simply have no concept of the incredible effort it takes to put together an application of this magnitude. I know I paid $100 or more for desktop software years ago that had not nearly the number of features this does.

The developers do seem to respond to most e-mails. I have written to them several times and have for the most part gotten timely responses - this is a small company and these guys are working quite hard to keep this going so I find it impressive that they do take the time to respond personally.

There are a few features I would like to see implemented as their prime competitors have done - but this is hands down the fastest application for the iPhone and has a bunch of features to choose from.

Support the with your $$ I did, and have not regretted it.

Need a forward button to re-enter a manual or book of scripture if I inadvertently back out

:
If I'm in a document, a manual, a scripture and start backing out and inadvertently go back to the manual chapter list, there's no way to click a forward button to get back to the page I was in. Very annoying. History page too often does not contain the page I was on. Takes too long to re-browse and scroll to where I was at. I still love the app. Keep making it better.
